MountainView Hospital Transitional Year Program Receives Accreditation
Las Vegas, NV April 1, 2017 — MountainView Hospital announced today it received accreditation
from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
for its Transitional Year residency program for 13 residents.
The MountainView Hospital / University of Nevada School of Medicine Transitional
Year Residency Program will have 13 positions available the first year.
The first Transitional Year residents will join MountainView beginning
July 2017. This accreditation brings the total number of residency positions
available at the hospital, among its accredited graduate programs, to
ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits
graduate medical education (GME) programs. Specialized training in Transitional
Year GME residency programs takes place over a one-year period that is
required prior to starting an advanced residency in a specialty, such
as radiology, anesthesiology, etc. The transitional year is structured
to give residents broad exposure to the basic areas of medicine to provide
fundamental skills training.

Graduate Medical Education program demonstrates the commitment of the

program will serve to strengthen medical education in southern Nevada
and attract new physicians to our community.”
The Transitional Year Residency Program accreditation marks another important
milestone for MountainView Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education
department and is the fourth accreditation for a residency program received
by the hospital. MountainView Hospital launched its Graduate Medical Education
program in 2015 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency
Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME). Since that time, MountainView has received accreditation for
General Surgery, OB-GYN.
