Internal Medicine Program Director Welcome

Kartika Shetty, MD, FACP

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium program in Internal Medicine.

We are an ACGME accredited categorical residency program, with 10 years continuing accreditation, located in the heart of Las Vegas. With 62 categorical residents, we are the largest GME program of the Sunrise Health GME Consortium, a member of the HCA GME family. HCA GME currently is the largest GME group in the United States.

Our mission is to train the next generation of high quality internist to meet the ever-evolving demands of Internal Medicine.

The larger focus of our training program is to create a balance between clinical training, fostering research and practicing evidence based medicine. As Program Director, I diligently work to create a balance of these diverse yet inter-related content areas. Through our physicians in training and faculty, we strive to provide quality care to Greater Las Vegas and North Las Vegas communities.

The Internal Medicine program’s clinical rotations are based at MountainView Hospital, a community based hospital providing healthcare to a diverse patient population in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, Nevada. I am proud of the learning environment offered by the hospital. The LeapFrog group, an independent hospital watchdog organization, named MountainView hospital a Top Teaching Hospital out of thousands of hospitals in the country. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. We are the only hospital in Nevada with this prestigious distinction.

We are proud of our comprehensive didactics curriculum and research curriculum.

Understanding that each of our residents has unique professional goals and perspectives, you will find our program offers an environment of collegiality and values cultural diversity. I am especially proud of our robust Wellness curriculum through which we strive to create a healthy work-life balance; you can find in-depth details of our curriculum here.

We have collaborated with VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) to provide our residents with additional clinical exposure at our state of the art Southern Nevada VA hospital.

The Internal Medicine program also sponsors fellowships in:
Endocrinology and Diabetes
