Emergency Medicine Program Director Welcome
Michael P. Allswede, DO
Hello and thank you for your interest in the Sunrise Health Graduate Medical
Education Consortium program in Emergency Medicine. This residency program
is an ACGME accredited three-year program.
The combination of two high-volume, high-acuity, full-service training
sites provides a wide variety of challenging emergency medicine cases
suitable for a well rounded clinical experience. The Modular Active Learning
Curriculum for Emergency Medicine (MALCEM) is an innovation 10 years in
the making. The MALCEM is based upon adult learning theory, rather than
the standard “lecture and book” approach. I feel that a robust
clinical exposure combined with a cutting-edge evidence-based curriculum
will produce superior residents.
I am the current Research Committee Chairman for the American College of
Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP), and am the 2016 recipient of
the “Janice A. Wachtler Educator of the Year” award from the
ACOEP. I have been involved in emergency medicine education for 25 years;
and the MountainView Hospital Residency Program in Emergency Medicine
is the second emergency medicine program that I have founded. My first
emergency medicine residency program was at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital
in Johnstown, PA.
I look forward to meeting you. Best wishes on a career in emergency medicine.
