Anesthesiology Program Director Welcome
Ferenc Puskas, MD, PhD, MBA
Thank you for your interest in our Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education
Consortium Anesthesiology Residency program. We are an ACGME accredited
three-year program; located in the city of Las Vegas, part of HCA Healthcare’s
Graduate Medical Education (GME) enterprise.
I am excited to bring you the first anesthesiology training program in
the state of Nevada. Our program offers the best of three worlds. First,
a community based training where system-based practice is an everyday
reality, not a distant concept. Second, fellowship trained, experienced
faculty providing real-life, practice-based learning and improvement opportunities
on a daily, case-by-case basis. Third, HCA GME, through its national scale,
offers rich opportunities for clinical research, access to online knowledge
resources, expert speakers and consultants, and an opportunity for a long
professional career following graduate training.
We are accredited for 21 advanced (three-year) anesthesiology residency
positions, with 13 currently enrolled. While currently we will not be
offering categorical positions, two local transitional year programs at
Sunrise GME Consortium based at MountainView Hospital and Southern Hills
Hospital, and several more within the HCA GME provides ample opportunities
to complete internship training.
As a program director, I bring 20 years of combined research, clinical,
education and administrative experience. I received my MD and PhD degrees
from Semmelweis University in Budapest Hungary; completed anesthesiology
residency at SUNY Upstate followed by a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology
Fellowship at Duke University. In 2006, I joined the faculty of the University
of Colorado, rising to the rank of Professor, and Chief of Cardiothoracic
Anesthesiology, while serving as Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship
Director for seven years. I recently completed an MBA in Health Administration
at CU Denver, and in 2017 joined Sunrise Health GME to build this anesthesiology
program and lead larger GME efforts as Assistant DIO.
