Residency Program is first of its kind in Nevada
Las Vegas, NV Feb. 14, 2018 — MountainView Hospital announced today it received accreditation
from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
for its Anesthesiology residency program for 18 residents. This is the
first anesthesiology residency program in the state of Nevada.
The MountainView Hospital / University of Nevada School of Medicine Anesthesiology
Residency Program will have six resident positions available the first
year. The first anesthesiology residents will join MountainView beginning
July 2018. This accreditation brings the total number of residency positions
available at the hospital, among its accredited graduate programs, to
159 positions.
ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits
graduate medical education (GME) programs. Specialized training in anesthesiology
takes place over a three-year period. Dr. Ferenc Puskas will serve as
the program’s program director.
“The accreditation of the anesthesiology program adds to the depth
of medical education in the state of Nevada and continues to demonstrate
the commitment of MountainView and Sunrise Health to our community and
our physicians,” said Jeremy Bradshaw, MountainView Hospital Chief
Executive Officer. “The anesthesiology program has a diverse fellowship-trained
faculty, with expertise in all sub specialties of anesthesiology, making
this program unique in Nevada.”
The Anesthesiology Residency Program accreditation marks another important
milestone for MountainView Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education
department and is the seventh accreditation for a residency program received
by Sunrise Health. Sunrise Health launched its Graduate Medical Education
Consortium in 2015 with the accreditation of its Internal Medicine Residency
Program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME), based at MountainView Hospital. Since that time, the program
has expanded to include Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center’s
family medicine and transitional year programs. Additionally, residents
rotate at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. The Sunrise Health Consortium
has received accreditation for General Surgery, OB-GYN, Transitional Year
(based at MountainView and Southern Hills), Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
