Family Medicine Program Director Welcome

Maureen Strohm, MD, FAAFP

Greetings and welcome to HCA’s new Sunrise Health GME Consortium/Southern Hills Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. I am delighted that you are exploring opportunities to train with us as HCA expands its Las Vegas GME programs. Our program is located at Southern Hills Hospital in Southwest Las Vegas for our inpatient and subspecialty rotations. We are partnering with Nevada Health Centers (NVHC), the largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) provider in Nevada. The Martin Luther King Family Health Center is our family medicine continuity clinic site and other NVHC health centers in Las Vegas will host rotations in outpatient pediatrics, women’s healthcare, school-based healthcare and care for the homeless.

We need you to be part of the solution! Nevada ranks 49th in the US for access to primary care physicians. Our family medicine program will prepare you to serve our communities in Las Vegas and beyond; positions with NVHC after graduation are eligible for federal loan repayment. After 20+ years as a Program Director in downtown Los Angeles, and founding a new FM program in the Palm Springs area, I am honored to join HCA in its residency development for Las Vegas, especially for our new Family Medicine program here at Southern Hills Hospital.

This is a unique opportunity to join our inaugural family medicine residency team – a chance to draw on your own creativity and experiences as we work together. Our slogan, “learning through caring” reflects Southern Hills Hospital’s vision of high quality, cost-effective and compassionate care – for the patients we serve and for the physicians we train as we partner with Nevada Health Centers in their mission “to provide access to quality healthcare services throughout Nevada.”

Applying that same commitment to excellence for our graduate medical education program, we offer innovative approaches to residency training in an extraordinary, collaborative environment to provide you with the tools, skills and experiences to be an outstanding family physician, patient advocate and leader – in our hospital, our community, and beyond. We have assembled a highly experienced team of clinicians and medical educators to guide our residency programs and medical student clerkships to ensure the highest quality educational experience.

Family Medicine Program Mission

In partnership with Nevada Health Centers, we are committed to train excellent Family Physicians to provide comprehensive, compassionate and evidence-based care to our patients, their families and our community in a collaborative, innovative learning environment.
